This work, for accompanied 2-part choir, sets Bliss Carman’s poem of the same name. The text dwells on the way that nature comes alive as the sun’s rays begin to shine on it at daybreak, yet can quickly turn to gray and fade. In this setting, I have opted to end on a hopeful note by reiterating the penultimate stanza.
